Church in the Westside Community with Dr. Rev. Ray Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Carbondale Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Sammie Lee was born December 23, 1927 and is the oldest child of Samuel and Emma Howard, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is the eldest of eight children; David Howard, Moses Howard, Frankie Alexander, Frances Scott, Samuel Howard Jr., and Annie Clark, each of whom preceded her in death. She has one surviving sister, Mary Cook of Dayton, OH. As well as, one surviving sister-in-law, Lucy Howard of Dayton, OH.
Sammie Lee met and married the love of her life, Willie Edward Clark, Sr. The two were married over 45 years prior to his death in 1992. Through this union four children were born; Willie Edward Clark, Jr., who preceded her in death, Samuel Clark (Brenda) of Tom Ball, TX, Beverly Mock (Rodney) of Southfield, MI, and Jesse Clark (Joyce) of Lorman, MS.
At a very young age, Sammie Lee confessed to Christ and joined Mount Olive M.B.Church, Lorman, MS where she eventually became a Mother of the Church. Before taking ill, she loved attending church and worshiping God, Our Almighty. Every Sunday, she prided herself as she would stroll to the front of the church with her fancy suit and matching hat.
If you knew her, you know she was never one to bite her tongue. Whatever came up, came out. She had a sharp tongue and no one could match her candor.
For almost 20 years, she worked and retired from Alcorn State University (ASU) in the Custodian Services Department. For many years, she was the sole custodian who ensured the Agriculture Science Building was always spotless. Prior to working for ASU and even after retirement, she was the childcare provider for numerous families.
She loved her dogs; Bear and Sissy Ghai. Her favorite television show was Walker, Texas Ranger and when someone called she would say, “I’m watching Walker.” She prided herself on her cooking skills and “boy, could she cook!”
With all of her life’s adventures and blessings there was nothing more important to her, than her family and friends.
She took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She has eight grandchildren; Sharon Thomas-Hardin (Renalto) of Pontiac, MI, Gary King of Kansas City, MO, Tomeka Price (Patrick) of Austin, TX, Tarvet Agee (Christopher) of Detroit, MI, Bridgette Dancer (William) of Tom Ball, TX, Lamond Clark (Tina) of New Iberia, LA, Samiya Clark of Tom Ball, TX and Delano McKinney (Kenyetta) of Warren, MI.
