Sadie Ruth Johnson

HELENA, Al: Funeral services for Sadie R. Johnson, 93, who died Monday, September 9, in Helena, AL, will be held at 11a.m., Friday, September 13, 2024 at Mercy Seat M.B. Church  with Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements.  Visitation will be Thursday, from 1p.m. until 5p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Friday, from 10a.m. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Johnson was a member and mother at Mercy Seat M.B. Church.  She worked with Mississippi Action for Progress for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Breckenridge and Sigar Moore Breckenridge; her husband, John Amos Johnson, Sr.; a son, Sylvester Johnson; three brothers, Isaac Johnson, Selma Johnson and Thomas C. Johnson; and two sisters, Everlean Watts and Mary B. Davis.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, John A. (Ethel) Johnson, Jr. of Port Gibson, MS;  five daughters, Johnnie R. Brown, Yvonne (Alton) Ryals, Rhonda (Pastor Daniel, Sr.) Cook and Michelle (Paul) Walls, all of Port Gibson, MS and Shirley Wilson of Helena, AL; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including a special god-daughter, Bonnie Brady of Port Gibson, MS.
