Rickey Edwards Obituary

Ricky James Edwards was born on February 1, 1968, in Claiborne County, Mississippi, to the late Luther Edwards Sr. and Willie Mae Edwards. On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the age of 57, Ricky peacefully transitioned from this life in his sleep at his home in DeSoto, Texas.

At an early age, Rickey accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and united with First Missionary Baptist Church in Hermanville, Mississippi. A proud graduate of the Port Gibson High School Class of 1986, Rickey excelled in football, basketball, and track. He was a remarkably gifted athlete whose talents shone across multiple sports. He distinguished himself as an exceptional discus thrower and played a pivotal role as a member of the Winning Capital Classic Track Team. In addition, he earned well-deserved recognition as a standout athlete on both the All-Area Football and Basketball teams. His athleticism, dedication, and leadership were truly commendable, leaving a lasting impression on teammates, coaches, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rickey went on to further his education at Paul Quinn Community College in Waco, Texas.

Ricky was a visionary man—talented in many areas and an entrepreneur at heart—always striving to turn ideas into reality. He was known for his determination, resourcefulness, and unwavering drive to succeed. His warm smile left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Though he has departed this earthly home, we find comfort in knowing he has entered eternal rest and is now reunited with those who went before him: his devoted parents, Luther and Willie Mae Edwards; his beloved sisters Mae’Ola, Lola, and Rose Ann; and his brothers Luther and Sammy Lee.

Ricky leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and resilience. He is survived by his loving son, Ricky Edwards Jr. of Dallas, TX; two devoted sisters, Dorothy Buck and Jerrie Dean Herring (Bruce), both of Hermanville, MS; and three brothers, George Edwards Sr. (Jerene) of Bastrop, LA, Leotis Edwards, and Willie Earl Edwards (Juanita), both of Port Gibson, MS.

His memory will forever be treasured by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Among those closest to his heart is his special friend, Anita Brooks, whom he deeply cherished.

Although our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and the blessed assurance that Ricky is now resting safely in the arms of the Savior.
