HERMANVILLE, MS: Funeral services for Rev. Dr. Johnny Hughes, 71, who passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at his resident, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Hermanville, Ms with Rev. Rickey O’Quinn officiating. Burial will be in the Hermanville Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with family hour starting at 6p.m. at Jones Chapel Church in Carlisle, MS. and Wednesday, from 10a.m. until service time at First Baptist Church in Hermanville, MS.
Rev. Hughes was the pastor of Christian Home M.B. Church #2 in Vicksburg, MS, First Baptist Church in Hermanville, MS and Jones Chapel in Carlisle, MS. He is the Moderator for the Claiborne County Baptist Association, member of the Ministers Alliance, Benevolent society, Baptist Aid, Christian Aid, Hospital Board, and the Southwest Electric Board.
In the Masonic Life in Freemasonry he was Right Illustrious General Rev. Dr. Johnny Hughes, 33/95; He was a member of New Hope Lodge #86 where he joined in 1974, a member of Silver Star Chapter #34; Grand Chaplain of the Most Worshipful King Hiram Grand Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Mason of MS; a Royal Arch Mason as a member of King David Royal Arch Chapter #22; the Herione of Jericho of Evergreen Court #8 in Hermanville, MS; was a Knights Templar and member of Job Commandery #16 in Port Gibson, MS; a Prince of the Royal Secrets a Thirty-Second Degree Mason and and member of Solomon Grand Consistory in Jackson, MS; a Noble of the Mystic Shrine and a member of Jerusalem Shrine Temple #1 in Jackson, MS; an Inspector General and a member of the United Supreme Council, Thirty-Third and Last Degree in the United States of America; and a Primitive Rite Mason, a Right Illustrious General in The Sovereign Sanctuary 95 Degrees Recognize in the United States and Foreign Country of Brazil.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Corlean Hughes; his parents, Madie B.Epps Tinsley and T.Y. Tinsley and Eugene Hughes; siblings, David Tinsley, Earl Tinsley, Jessie Hughes and Kameka Tinsley.
Rev. Hughes is survived by three sons, Adam (Cassandra) Wells, Dwayne ( Brenda) Hughes and Edwin (Andrea) Hughes, all of Hermanville, MS; three brothers, Eugene Hughes of Hermanville, MS, Tommy Tinsley, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan and Charlie Tinsley of Houston, TX; three sisters, Mary Bell Tinsley, Dr. Alicia Tinsley Goods and Tamaria Tinsley, all of Hermanville, MS; two uncles, Herbert L. Epps and Reuban Epps, both of Hermanville, MS; an aunt, Ruth Callahan of Utica, MS; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
