Ralph “Buddy” Brooks was born August 4, 1930 to the late Joseph Brooks Sr. and Willie Mae Brooks in Claiborne County. (Pattison area). Buddy as he was affectionally called by friends and family, never married and never got baptized, even thou he knew the Lord. He served two tours in the United States Army as a surveyor, during the Korean conflict.
Buddy attended school in Fayette, Ms, then went to college at Utica Jr. College before going to Alcorn A &M College. After going to the military, he worked as a logger. He loved good whiskey and fast girls. He was a pool shark. His favorite song was ‘A change is Gonna Come’ by Sam Cooke. His favorite saying was, “If you see me in a bear fight… help the bear.” However, his best saying was spoken by the old patriot Job in verse 14 of chapter 14, “ I will wait until my change comes.”
Buddy was one of 14 children; 9 boys and 5 girls. He was preceded in death by 11 siblings which include John Henry Brooks, James ‘Duke’ Brooks, Eli ‘Pete’ Brooks, Joseph ‘Bo’ Brooks, Jewel ‘Doll’ Brooks, Charlie ‘Smiley’ Brooks, and Lear Nora Brooks.
He leaves to cherish his memories 2 brothers, David Brooks, Sr. (Dorothy). And George “Lil George’ Brooks (Gwen) both of Port Gibson, MS; a sister-in-law, Ethel Jean Brooks of Pattison, Ms; two aunts, Sarah Summers and Janie Summers, both of Jackson, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
