RICHMOND, TX: Funeral services for Mitchell Hyder, 58, who died Friday, August 22, 2025, in Houston, TX, will be held at 11a.m, Saturday, September 6, at Central Church of Christ Church in Port Gibson, Ms with Pastor Eugene Carney officiating. Burial will be in Clark Creek Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Saturday, from 10a.m. until service time at the church.
Mitchell Hyder was born on September 13, 1966 in Port Gibson, MS to the union of Enex Hyder, Sr. and Annie Ruth Newsome. He was the 10th of 11 children.
After receiving his high school diploma from Port Gibson High School, he enrolled at Utica Junior College where he received an associate degree in Electronic Technology. Mitchell continued his studies at Prairie View A & M University where he obtained a
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering; and a Master ’s Degree in Human and Organizational Development from Westminster University. Mitchell was employed at National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) before his health failed. At the time of his passing, he lived in Richmond, Texas. Mitchell’s past times included attending sporting events at his
beloved PVAMU, participating in activities with his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and spending time with family.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his father, Enex Hyder, Sr.; mother, Annie Ruth Newsome Hyder; sister, Gloria Faye Hargro; sisters, Brenda Lee Williams, Mahalia Hampton, Marilyn Guy; and a brother, Roy Osborne.
Mitchell leaves behind to cherish his memories four brothers Alonzo Yates of Tucson, Arizona, Andrew Newsome of Atlanta, GA, Charles Newsome of Longview, TX and Enex Hyder, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Kelly Thomas of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
