Mamie Lee Smith was born on July 7, 1940 to the late Jim and Hester Evans. On Sunday, April 17, 2022 at 3:34 p.m., God looked down from His heavenly throne and ordered His servant, Mamie Lee Smith to rest her labor, to wait her savior’s return. Mamie peacefully departed her earthly life at the home of her daughter in Hermanville, MS surrounded by loved ones. For there is a purpose and time for everything under the sun. Mamie’s time and purpose on earth has now come to a gentle close.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Smith; son, Jamie Lee Smith; a daughter, Martha Jean Neely; four sisters, Bessie, Emma, Corine and Catherine; two brothers, Albert Ray and Isaac; stepdaughter, Velma Wren and a special friend, Jimmie Lee Truitt.
Mamie leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Betty (Nathaniel) Minor, Dorcia (Samuel) Warner, and Teresa (James) Johnson; three sons, Willie Earl Evans, Jerry Smith and Terry Smith; two step-sons, Melvin Truitt and James Truitt; a brother, Temp (Sarah) Evans; four sisters, Nora Lee Sorrels, Ida (Richard) Banks, Ruby Walker and Flora (Johnnie) Smith; and a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
