PORT GIBSON, MS: Funeral services for LaTrena Lynette “September” Smith, 30, who died Friday, May 9, 2025, at her resident will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday, May 17, at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Reed officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 1p.m. until 5p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Saturday, from 10a.m.until service time at the church.
LaTrena worked at Hinds Community College, Utica Branch as a Student Finance Counselor. She served as a faithful volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce for many years. She worked with the Windsor Car Show registration for many years where she was always super friendly, her smile and loving demeanor was infectious. She recently became a member of the Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors where she was instrumental in organizing the Chamber Banquet and the Windsor Car Show.
Ms. Smith is survived by her mother, Annie Ezell of Port Gibson, MS; her father, Albert E. Smith, Sr. of Fayette, MS; a brother, Albert E. Smith, Jr. of Brentwood, MD; six sisters, Valentina Love and Clarissa Ezell, both of Port Gibson, MS, Felicia Garfield and Kenya Smith, both of Fayette, MS, Tara Smith and Tamara Smith, both of Washington, D.C.; a uncle, Millard F. Smith of Gary, IN; nine aunts, Ethel Farley, Bertha Paige and Shirley Townsend, all of Chicago, IL, Ora (Gene) Jones of Chicago, Il, Bennie M. Hedrick of Frisco City, Al, Mildred Neal of Itta Bena, MS, Cora Carter of Lorman, MS, Mary Johnson of E. Chicago, IL and Vernice McKnight of Oklahoma City, OK; a special friend, Damian Harden of Baton Rouge, La; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
