PORT GIBSON, MS: Funeral services for Johnny Ruth Johnson Brown, 78, who died Saturday, July 5, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Ms, will be held at 11a.m., Friday , July 11, at Mercy Sea M.B. Church with Rev. Frank MGriggs officiating; Rev. Daniel Cook will do the Eulogy with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 9a.m. until service time at the church.
Johnnie Ruth Johnson-Brown confessed Christ at a young age, and was baptized by the late Rev. E.E. Spencer. She was a devoted and faithful choir member in the Mercy Seat and St. Mark choir until her health began to fail. She was a graduate of Addison High School’s class of 1964. She furthered her education at Alcorn A &M College with a degree in Elementary Education. Shortly after graduating she began teaching at the young age of 18. She later completed her mastered degree at Alcorn. She was a dedicated, devoted, loving and supportive teacher for over 40 years at Mixon Elementary School in Utica, MS.
Johnnie Ruth was very witty and enjoyed cooking, baking, bringing smiles and laughter to those she came in contact with. She loved talking and giving advice to her family and friends. She also loved her perfume. Johnnie Ruth was a member of the Delta Lambda Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho, a member of the Mississippi Association of Educators, Golden Star Chapter #92 OES District 5-B and the Baptist Aid.
Johnnie Ruth was preceded in death by her parents: John Amos Johnson Sr and Sadie R. Johnson.; one brother: Sylvester Johnson.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory: a devoted and loving son: James (Lakeda) Brown III. A brother:John Amos(Ethel) Johnson, Jr of Port Gibson, MS, four sisters, Yvonne Ryals of Pinson, Al, Shirley Wilson of Helena, Al, Rhonda (Rev. Daniel Cook) Cook and Michelle (Paul) Walls. Two loving god-daughter, Erma Greenwood and Frances Randall. A god-sister Bonita Brady. Two step-grandchildren Aironne Foster and Jaylon Moore and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. A host of longtime best friends whom she loved and treated all equally.
