PORT GIBSON: Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie T. James, 98, who died Sunday, January 8, at the Claiborne County Medical Center will be held at 11a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church in Port Gibson with Rev. James Jones officiating; Rev. Kemp Burley will do the eulogy. Burial will be in the Hermanville Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Saturday, from 10a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. James was a member and choir member at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church. She alone with Mrs. Hazel Martin organized the original choir. She worked for OK cleaners as a presser for over 48 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Ruffin and Deneath Norrell Ruffin; her husband, L.E. James; a brother, Ervin Ruffin; three sisters, Elma Rowan, Lethada Fields and Willie Y. Gusta.
Mrs. James is survived by a brother, Louis Ruffin of Ca; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends that include Lee Ethel King, Mary C. Scutter, Shirley Tinner, Darryl Burley, Johnnie Ruth James, Edward Gusta, Sr., Percy Gusta, Bernard Gusta, Jr. and Princess Buck.
