PORT GIBSON, MS: Funeral services for Johnnie Lee Smith Butler, 93, who died Friday, April 14, at the Claiborne County Medical Center in Port Gibson, MS will be held at 11a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Welcome Baptist M.B. Church with Rev. Barry Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1p.m. until 5p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Thursday from 10a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Butler was a member and former choir member at Welcome Baptist Church. She worked at National Plastics for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gip Butler; her parents, Sam Smith, Sr. and Julia Davis Smith; two sisters, Katie Bell Caldwell and Martha Voss; four brothers, Sam Smith, Jr., S.J. Smith, Jake L. Smith and Roosevelt Smith.
Mrs. Butler is survived by a son, Gip A. Butler, Sr.; a daughter, Linda (Nathaniel, Jr.) Martin of Port Gibson, MS; a daughter/niece, Janice Voss of Hammond, IN; seven grandchildren; Reginald Martin of Port Gibson, MS, Nathaniel (Nikita) Martin, III of Madison, MS, Ronald (Stephanie) Bozeman of Greenbelt, MD; Ryan Martin, Gip A. Butler, Jr., MaKayla Butler, and MaKaysha Butler, all of Jackson, MS; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
