James Russell Dorsey

PORT GIBSON, MS:  Funeral services for James Russell “Bro” Dorsey, 92, who died Thursday, March 2, at his residence will be held at 2p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Greater St. Mark  M.B. Church with Rev. Barry Thompson officiating.  Burial will be in the Springhill Church cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements.  Visitation will be Friday, from 1p.m. until 5p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Saturday from 1p.m. until service time at the church.

Mr. Dorsey was a member of Springhill M.B. Church.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Dorsey, Sr. And Ella Wade Dorsey; eight siblings, Ella Maple Wilson, Rosetta Thomas, Katie Wilson, Ida Bridgeman, Louberta Johnson, Clarence Hedrick, Sr., Alex Dorsey, Jr. and Charlie Dorsey.

Mr. Dorsey is survived by his wife, Bertha Dorsey of Port Gibson, MS; five sons, James (Cinder) Dorsey, Johnny (Carolyn) Dorsey, Levi Dorsey and Russell (Courtney) Dorsey, Sr., all of Port Gibson, MS and Michael (Doris) Dorsey of Clinton, MS; eleven daughters, Carolyn (Walter) Mays, Glenda (Percy) Graise, Ida Mae Dorsey, Vanessa (Eugene) Payne, Ethel ( David) Dorsey, Bobbie (Charles) Patton, Janie Dorsey, Peggy ( Charles) Dorsey Marshall, and Geraldine (Jermaine) Dorsey, all of Port Gibson, MS, Sharon (Earl) Jones of Yazoo, MS and Ruby Jean Dyer of Fayette, MS; two brothers, Walter Dorsey of Hazlehurst, MS and P.C. Hedrick of Pattison, MS; two sisters, Lucy Dorsey of Pattison, MS and Sarah Johnson of New Orleans, LA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
