PORT GIBSON, MS: Funeral services for Horace William Wicks, 94, who died Sunday, January 5, at the Claiborne County Medical Center in Port Gibson, MS, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 12, at First Baptist Church, 501 Farmer Street, Port Gibson, MS with Rev. Kevin Winters officiating. Burial will be Monday, January 13 at 12pm at the Wicks Memorial Garden Cemetery 822 Wicks Road, Columbus, MS 39701 with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Saturday, January 11, from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Sunday, from 1p.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Wicks served in the Claiborne County School District for 37 years as an elementary school teacher and as Principal at Richardson Primary School. He was a faithful servant at First Baptist Church where he served in numerous roles which included Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Church Treasurer. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Port Gibson Lodge #21, and a Lifetime member of the Alcorn Alumni Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Isaac W.Wicks and Lucenda Gray-Wicks; his siblings, Bertha McGee, Josephine Wicks, Rev. Ezell Wicks, Virginia James, Edna Braswell, Thomas Wicks, Simon Wicks, Marshall Wicks and John Wicks, Sr.
Mr. Wicks is survived by his wife, Tonsie Coleman Wicks of Port Gibson, MS; a son, Dariel (Alicia) Wicks of Port Gibson, MS; a daughter, Marietta Wicks of Birmingham, AL; two grandchildren, Dariel Armon Wicks of Houston, TX and Delisia Lauren Wicks of Alexandria, VA; a brother-in-law, Narvel (Frankie) Coleman; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Wicks, Mary Wicks, Shirley Wicks, and Arimentha Howlett; a god-daughter, Michele Johnson of Port Gibson, MS and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
