HERMANVILLE, MS: Graveside services for Frank Lester Phelps, 67, who died Saturday, April 19, 2025 at St. Dominic’s hospital in Jackson, MS, will be held at 2p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Hermanville Cemetery in Hermanville, MS with Rev. Otis Davis officiating with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Phelps was the oldest of three children born to Dora Mae Phelps. Frank was born in Detroit, MI and his mother later took him to Hermanville, Ms where his grandmother, Mrs. Ella Phelps raised him along with his aunts, Bernice Phelps-Dobbins and Lee Sarah Evans.
Upon graduating from Port Gibson High School, Frank attended Alcorn State University, in Lorman, MS where he was a member of the Alcorn State University’s Sound of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band. Frank’s desire to join the military led him to enlist with the United States Air Force where he served for several years. Upon his release from the military he joined the Vicksburg, MS Police Department where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lemon and Ella Lee Phelps; his mother, Dora Mae Phelps.
Mr. Phelps is survived by two brother, Orlando (Henrietta) Phelps of Hermanville, MS and Lemon Ray (Nicole) Phelps of Holly Springs, MS; a sister, Beverly Ann Phelps of Nashville, TN; three aunts, Bernice Dobbins of Hermanville, MS, Lee Sarah (Robert) Evans of Hattiesburg, MS and Josephine Peaks of South Bend, IN; a uncle, Robert Phelps of Creek, IL; a special goddaughter, Brianna Graves of Vicksburg, MS; five nieces, one nephew, and other relatives and friends.
