Funeral services for Evelyn Johnson Wyatt, 103, who died Monday, October 17, at the Claiborne County Medical Center will be held at 11a.m., Friday, October 28, at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with Rev. Kevin Winters officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday , from 1p.m. until 5p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and Friday, from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Scott’s Memorial Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Due to recent events affecting the nations, we ask that you take precautions; mask must be worn and will not be provided.
Mrs. Wyatt was a member and deaconess at First Baptist Church, a member of the Mississippi Baptist Association and the Retired Teachers Association. She graduated from LeMoyne Jr. College and Southern University with a B.A. Degree, and received a master’s degree and specialist degree at the University of Indiana. She dedicated her life to her students and served her community for over 42 years as an educator.
Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Evans Johnson and Susie Howard Johnson; her husband, Arthur Wyatt, Sr.; a son, Arthur Wyatt, Jr.; and nine siblings, Thomas Johnson, Roscoe Johnson, Alma Cunningham, Alfred Johnson, Sadie Ramsey, Leroy Johnson, Hazel Johnson Jones, Kelvin Johnson, and Stella J. Mason.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law-law, Dorothy Wyatt of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Juanita Wyatt Hathaway(Gary) and Dorita Wyatt, both of Atlanta, Ga; three great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
