PORT GIBSON, MS : Funeral services for Emma Ruth Warner, 83, who died Thursday, October 27, at her resident, will be held at 11a.m., Saturday, November 5, at Christian Chapel Church in Port Gibson, MS with Pastor Rufus Edwards officiating, Visitation will be held on Friday, from 1p.m. until 4p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and a family hour from 5p.m. until 7 p.m. at Christian Chapel Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Due to recent events affecting the nations, we ask that you take precautions; mask must be worn and will not be provided.
Mrs. Warner was a member of Christian Chapel Church, the Christian Women’s Fellowship and the Retired Teacher’s Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew Burks, Sr. and Johnnie Weddington Burks; her husband, Julius Warner; a son, Darryl Warner; three brothers, Matthew Burks, Jr., Barry Burks, and William Dowery; and a nephew, Matthew Burks, III.
Mrs. Warner is survived by two daughters, Dr. Barbara Warner Martin of Port Gibson, MS and Valarie Warner McDonald of Altadena, CA; four brothers, James Burks, Sherman Burks, and Leon Williams, all of Oakland, CA, and Glen Williams of Richmond, VA; three sisters, Marietta Thornton of Port Gibson, MS, Frances L. Jones of Oakland, CA and Monica Jones of Saginaw, MI; four grandchildren, Thomas (Vera )Martin of Port Gibson, MS, Brittany Rhone and Breanna McDonald, both of Altadena, CA and Dewayne Rhone of Los Angeles, CA; two great grandsons and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
