Pastor Elijah Brown was born on October 31, 1950 in Scott, MS to Rev. Wade and Bertha Brown. He passed away April 24, 2022 @ 6:23p.m.
He graduated from Coleman High School in 1968 and later attended Alcorn State University and graduated in 1972 and 1978. He then continued his education and received his Doctorate in Divinity at Battlefield Baptist Institute in 2001.
Elijah began his coaching and teaching career at Monticello High School in Monticello, MS. He later coached at South Natchez High School; was an assistant coach at Alcorn State University with the late Marino Casem and Jack Spinks; Assistant Coach and Assistant Principal at Port Gibson High School; principal at Wilkerson County High School, and Port Gibson Middle School. He was the Claiborne County school District’s transportation Administrator and Elected Superintendent of Education of the Claiborne County School District.
He accepted his calling to work with the Lord and became pastor of Mount Olive M.B. Church where he served for twenty three years. He was a member of East Mt. Olive M.B. Church and served as an Associate Pastor to Dr. Tracy Collins. He was a member of many associations and participated in many events. With an astounding presence of his voice to hear HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH.
Elijah is survived by his wife, Shirley Brown; children, Jermaine Brown and Anitra Hunter; three brothers, Joe Brown (Margaret), Terry Brown (Mary Ann), Melvin Brown (Yolanda) ; a sister, Pam Grace (Carl) uncle, Johnny Harris (Betty) aunt, Phyllis Felder; 5 grandchildren; 4 Great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held @11:00a.m., Saturday, April 29, at the Davey Whitney Complex on the campus of Alcorn State University. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery.
