CHICAGO, MS: Graveside services for Bertha Lee Walker Green, 87, who died Wednesday, November 22, in Chicago, IL, will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, December 9, at St. Phillip’s Cemetery, Hermanville, Ms with Rev. Hugh Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of the arrangements.
Bertha Lee was born to the late Olivia and Eddie “Bilbo” Green on May 8, 1935 in Hermanville, MS. She was the second of eight children. Bertha received her primary education at Claiborne County Training School in Port Gibson, MS.
Mrs. Green was a member of Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. James Meeks. She worked for Krouse Nursing Home for many years until she became a stay-at-home mom for her children and grandchildren. Bertha found love and married Melvin Green of Vicksburg, MS on February 19, 1954, who preceded her in death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Olivia and Eddie “Bilbo” Walker, her husband, Melvin Green and siblings, Fannie Mae Smith, Charlie Walker, Carrie McCray, and Eddie Walker, Jr.
Mrs. Green is survived by her children, Mary Sandra, Edward “Jocko”, Treva Lynn, Craig Demetrius, and China Nicole; a significant other, Edward Johnson; siblings, Alma Weston, Jimmy (Linda) Walker, and Cynthia Walker, all of Port Gibson, MS; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
